Stocks get slammed by recession jitters

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) — Stocks tanked early Friday afternoon after AIG’s record loss, compounded by weak readings on manufacturing and consumer sentiment that helped revive recession fears.

Adding to the downbeat sentiment were record-high oil prices, the slumping dollar and reports that a rescue of bond insurer Ambac has hit some roadblocks. (Read More)

Man better get ready to hold on to your hat!  I can say from my personal experience things have slowed down at my place of employment as well.  (pie)

LETS HOLD HANDS AND BRASS POLES

Strippers, river rats, sand sluts, soccer moms and people with just bad taste now have 46,000 square feet of shopping free of toilet water. Gucci doesn’t need your toilet water to make crops grow! Electrolytes is what Gucci needs! (Editors note: Gucci is gross! It’s like old lazy susan cake sitting in a truck stop diner!) (pie)

    HOUSING PRICES FALL IN ENGLAND

Looks like housing troubles have begun to ripple across the pond. Though the Bank of England plans future rate cuts they are going to be less drastic than what’s going on in the US. (pie)

LONDON TIMES: More gloom for the UK housing market came today as figures from the Halifax showed prices were unchanged last month and the three-month trend was down by 1 per cent.

The Halifax numbers follow those from the Nationwide which indicated a 0.1% month-on-month fall in January, the third successive monthly decline. Read More

Rating the best and worst ads of the Super Bowl.

The Piecap: In short this was by far the worst round of advertisements I have ever seen during the super bowl. If it wasn’t for the local comical back and fourth ads about Indian gaming i would have lost it. I would say my favo was either the Jack N The Box or Charlie Brown Coke ad. All the rest sucked and esp the E Trade ads. Man nothing is more repulsive than babies and especially babies that buy stocks. (pie)

Newsweek: Until that stunning fourth quarter, it was looking as though the over-the-top commercials would be the only interesting part of Super Bowl 42. Turns out they were just the most interesting part. With the price of a 30-second spot up to a staggering $2.7 million this year, it’s vitally important for companies to make a good impression before television’s largest audience. Here’s a breakdown of who got their money’s worth and who should ask for a refund. Read More…
